Fasting & Fitness

By Lisa Monroe

Some individuals believe that fasting will help them to become more fit. They are confident that their body will feed off of the fat that has accumulated and they will lose weight. They will also end up with more muscles in the places they want them to be on their body. Many individuals take part in fasting for fitness as they want to get rid of toxins in their bodies.

By drinking plenty of water and not eating foods they are able to flush out all of the various impurities in their body. This can be a lengthy process that requires you to fast for at least five to seven days though in order to complete the detox process. Yet the verdict is still out as to whether this type of fasting is right for those that want to get fit.

There seem to be many other ways that do work quite well though when it comes to fitness. For example you can cut back the amount of food that you consume. This combined with increasing your level of physical activity can really help you to become more fit. You can also replace those drinks that are full of calories and sugar with plain water. This will help you to lose weight faster than anything even if you don’t make any other changes to your diet or your level of exercise.

You can get yourself into trouble physically though if you end up fasting and increasing your level of fitness at the same time. Your body simply isn’t going to be able to supply enough energy to take care of such a change. A person doing so can end up very weak and even light headed. You don’t want to risk an injury due to not giving your body the fuel it needs to complete the tasks you are pushing it to do.

It is wise to see a doctor before you make any changes to either your diet or your fitness routine. Discuss with your doctor your thoughts about fasting and fitness. They will be able to tell you if they feel it is something you can try or simply too risky. Fasting too long or too often can lead to high blood pressure as well as to liver damage. So if you do engage in it you need to do so in moderation. For additional information about fasting and the benefits of fasting go to http://tinyurl.com/mpdzs4
